Postmortem for the canceled

So, I'm uploading this barely finished game, yippie!

This isn't my first attempt at solo devving but this is my first time ever uploading one of them. I don't think Dear,Forget Me Not cam be described in terms of pride or embarrassment, cause truly it's just a scrap of what I had planned both for execution and for narrative.  In this postmodern I'll go over the plans I had, the struggles, and if there are any plans for the future.

Firstly this game goes all the way back to Otome Jam 2023, shocking! Last year i was in the very early stages of coming up with character concepts and plot ideas for dating sim that took place in a monster cafe (run by a monster MC and had a cast full of monster customers) with only 1 human patron who would become a regular. Vasily was that human character and long story short, he was a very lonely man (as i always seem to end up creating stories about very lonely men).  My jam entry fell through but Vasily and his emotions still stayed on my mind.  Early 2024 I decided to revamp his design and slightly alter his story.

Ofc he is still lonely but now he has always had a connection with the MC. Granted most of the time it was not good and colored with jealousy, envy but it was also filled with a love for the MC's work and for them their safety. Continued living. This new story was about two witches, both powerful and trying to create a spell that fashions immortality, in the end only one of them is able to see that wish until the end. Vasily is an immortal witch who travels across the lands looking for the bones his lover who dies over and over and over again, not just in flesh but also in memory.

Very different from the monster cafe idea! And unable to be conveyed in the short snippet I'm publishing.

The oringial scope of this game was to have 3 major routes that would be triggered by the naming prompt in the beginning:

•Incorrect name

•Vasily

•Vasya

The idea was that there would be an order to how you learned his name. In your first playthrough you will not know if name (unless you read the itch page), hence you will know nothing about Vasily putting you in the same boat as the MC uncovering more about the relationship the two had as they move through the routes.

All that leading into what happened? Me not being a programmer happened! And also me not being a writer lol

My main focus in game development and all my creative things in general has to do with art. So once I start a project that as a couple more areas involved, all of it starts to spiral; or worse I get bored.

Dear, Forget Me Not unfortunately had me handling all the parts ans me getting bored half way through the jam I briefly brought the story back for. I over scoped but those are the breaks. With my experience scoping projects will be easier, along with the other jams I joined I have friends who I can ask for advice from.

Are there any plans to return to DFMN not at the moment but I am open go properly telling Vasily and the MC's story. I had a lot planned for them, their dynamic and history means a lot to me.  But I have work, other projects, I go to school on and off, so I won't say I'll pick this back up in the near future. Also I would like to find a team to help with the work load cause I am not a fan of programming, I would love to make sure my wrist and wallet stay healthy lol

If you read this far thank you for reading my very all over the place thoughts! And please look forward to all the projects I work on or have in store. I've got my fingers in quite a few game jams rn >:D
